Pre-K, Pete and Me!
I’m spending the entire morning with our smallest learners as our district celebrates Pre-K Week!
Our district has 42 pre-k classrooms at 35 school sites across the district. The school system serves around 875 pre-k students each year. Our pre-k program is funded by the Georgia Lottery and governed by Bright from the Start and partners with the YMCA Head Start.
When a pre-k program is housed in our schools, the school principal provides oversight and management of the classroom. This means that our itty-bitty learners get the opportunity to participate in numerous academic and recreational activities during the day, usually reserved for older students. I truly enjoy watching our pre-k teachers and students in action. They use standards that address the social, emotional, and cognitive development of young children.
Today I’m reading Pete the Cat, a story by Eric Litwin (who is from right here in Atlanta by the way). Be on the lookout for new photos as I post them below! Happy Pre-K week!
